BIOGRAPHY

Date of Birth 15-01-1945. Degree in Biology (1967).
Professor of Genetics, Faculty of Science, University of Naples ( 1975-1986).
Research Director in Genetics, CNR, Naples.
Coordinator of the EU project “Novel Bioinsecticides from Insect Parasitoids” (2001-2004).
Principal investigator of projects financed by: CNR Progetto Finalizzato Biotecnologie e Biostrumentazioni and RAISA; EU Human Capital and Mobility network, Italian Ministry of Education and Agriculture.
Consultant of the Joint FAO/IAEA Division, Vienna, for the Research Co-ordinated Agreements “Enhancement of the sterile insect technique through genetic transformation using nuclear techniques”. (1996-2001) and “Genetic Engineering for the improvement of the Sterile Insect Technique” (1992-95).
Referee of scientific projects for national and international agencies (Human Frontier Science Program, EEC, CNR, and MURST).
Member of the Scientific Board of the European PhD Course “Insect Biotechnology”.
Member of reviewer committees (HFSP, MURST, EU, FAO/IAEA) and of:: Genetic Society of America; American Society for Cell Biology; Royal Entomological Society of London.

-Structure and expression of ribosomal genes iin insects
-Molecular genetics of Drosophila melanogaster development, reproduction and fertility.
-Molecular and functional bases of host regulation by lepidopteran and aphid parasitoids and their associated polydnaviruses.
-Suppression of immune reaction induced by insect parasitoids in their hosts.
