Born in Castellammare di Stabia (NA), Italy, on March 22nd, 1954.
Education: Laurea summa cum laude in Biological Sciences, University of Napoli, 1978.

Current scientific interests: The research is focused on the study of issues related to the normal development and the onset of disease in insects. The model used is Drosophila melanogaster. The lines of research include the interactions between parasitoids and their hosts and the changes in the immune response and insect development induced by biotic and abiotic factors.
Prizes: Recipient of PNAS Cozzarelli Prize 2013 (National Academy of Sciences U.S.A.), awarded to the best paper published in PNAS (Applied Biological Sciences).
