Graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Pisa, from 1965 to 2010 he carried out his work continuously in the University. From 1965 to 1985, at the University of Pisa, as appointed Assistant Professor of General Zoology and Associate Professor of Animal Parasitology of Plants; from 1985 to 1990 at the Tuscia University (Viterbo), as Full Professor of Animal Parasitology of Plants and appointed Professor of Forest Zoology; from 1990 to 2010, again at the University of Pisa, as Full professor of Agricultural Entomology and appointed Assistant Professor of Animal Parasitology of Plants and Apiculture.
From 1998 to 2003, at Pisa University as well, he was Department Chair; from 2003 to 2007 Dean of the Faculty and, from 1998 to 2012, Editor of the Journal Frustula Entomologica. In 2000 he received the “Ordine del Cherubino”, an honor that the Pisan University reserves to the Professors who have distinguished themselves in teaching and research.
His research activity focused on the morphology, physiology and biology of insects of agricultural, forestry, apicultural and naturalistic interest, with particular reference to Diptera Mycetophilidae. In addition, he has devoted much of his research to biology and control of Rodent micro-mammals.
