BIOGRAPHY

Graduated in Agricultural Sciences in 1997 at the University of Pisa. He was an graduate and post-graduate fellow (PhD, 2001) at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa in collaboration with the University of Pisa and Yale. Since 2021 he is an associate professor in General and Applied Entomology (AGR11) at the Free University of Bolzano. Previously he was an assistant professor for 12 years (2009-2021) at the same university, a senior researcher for 5 years at the University of Göttingen, a junior researcher for 2 years at the University of Giessen and a research fellow for 1 year at the University of Pisa. He currently teaches Agricultural and Forest Entomology, Applied Entomology in Horticultural Crops, Apiculture, and Insects as Novel Food.

His research fields focus on the development of innovative control techniques for pest insects to reduce reliance on synthetic insecticides, without compromising agricultural productions obtained with both organic and IPM practices. The research areas concern agricultural and forestry entomology, chemical ecology and ecological interactions between plants and insects, insect olfaction, semiochemicals (electroantennography and behaviour), insect rearing, volatile organic compounds (GC-MS), precision crop protection, sensory proteins (OBPs and CSPs), beekeeping and environmental monitoring of pesticides.
